The annual SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference (NLSC) is a showcase of career and technical education students from all fifty states, as well as U.S. territories. Upwards of 19,000 people including students, advisors, parents, and industry representatives participated in the weeklong conference at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta that took place June 20-24 this year. More than 6,500 outstanding career and technical education students — all state contest winners — compete hands-on in over 100 different trade, technical, and leadership fields during the event.
SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers, and industry working together to ensure our nation has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student excel. This national, non-profit organization serves teachers as well as high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations, including healthcare.
As a Career & Technical Education (CTE) destination, the SkillsUSA TECHSPO showcases the latest technology and its application by our future workforce, teachers, and experts. Over 200 exhibitors at SkillsUSA TECHSPO are placed alongside national career competitions and leadership sessions that are shaping and celebrating our nation’s career ready students.
Over the years as an industry representative, ShopBot has been a supporter of SkillsUSA at local, regional, state, and national levels. ShopBot is proud to provide CNC tools, training, and support that help make these students winners and prepare them for successful careers in a wide variety of fields.
One school, from Belton, Texas, has been consistent in sending students to compete at nationals. They are big fans of ShopBot, of which they have six, and gave us a "Vendor of the Year" award a few years ago. With the help of their ShopBots, three first time competitors built a chapter display which placed fifth in their very first trip to Nationals in 2018.
Fast forward to this year and the level of competition challenges were at all-time high... and so was the interest at the ShopBot booth. Not only did we have many advisors from all across the nation visiting our booth but many students and parents dropped by. Some of the student competitors have already started their own businesses and were starting to think about a possible ShopBot in their future.
