ShopBot's PartWorks is a CAD/CAM program that will get you started quickly designing for CNC cutting and machining. This 2.5D design system has a highly-acclaimed interface that makes it easy to get your ideas and designs ready for your ShopBot to cut.

In addition to doing great cutting of 2D parts, PartsWorks has excellent capabilities for 3D V-Carving (machining that gives letters and shapes a chiseled look; also referred to as Intaglio or 3D Engrave). It allows anyone with a ShopBot CNC tool to quickly and easily incorporate beautiful, decorative carved designs into their own products. PartWorks comes with the ability to V-carve any fonts on your computer as well as closed shapes. PartWorks comes with PartWorks 3D which will allow you to create 3D cutting-files from models created in your favorite 3D modeling program or downloaded from the web. Rhino 3D

Rhino is the leading, affordable, general-purpose 3D modeling program. It can be used for any kind of 3D project from making engineering models to creating sculpture (e.g. the ShopBot models on the 'Product' page were done in Rhino). Rhino has extensive 3D CAD tools and can be used with its own, or add-in rendering tools to create impressive representations of objects. Be aware that it is much more difficult to learn to work in 3D than in 2D or 2.5D (Rhino also does not have the convenient tools of ArtCAM PRO for turning outlines into 3D shapes), but if you are interested in trying 3D modeling, Rhino is the way to go. Note that Rhino does not export any CNC cutting file. It will export 3D files that can be turned into a ShopBot Part File or CNC toolpath file by a CAM program such as Mill Wizard (below).

Vector Art 3D – Dimensional CNC Clipart

Vector Art 3D has a library of 3D computer models ready to be carved on a ShopBot tool. Their artwork takes the cost and complexity out of producing beautiful carved parts with your machine. The files are compatible with many software packages including PartWorks 3D,  VCarvePro, ArtCAM Pro, Cut3D, Rhino and many others. Vector Art Mega Collections (1, 2 & 3)

These clip art collections are especially useful for sign-making. There is a lot of 2D clip art available on the web, much of it available for free download. The problem with these images is that most of them are based on pixels (e.g. jpg, bmp, gif), rather than the vector type entities (lines, circles, arcs; e.g. dxf, dwg) that are needed for CNC toolpaths. Even when you find vector files, they typically are 'messy' ... that is, the lines or arcs do not end at common points, there are duplicate or missing lines, or other errors that make them difficult to use as the basis of tools paths. The files in the Vector Art Mega Collections were created with CNC cutting in mind. All files contain vector entities and they are clean and ready to use in signs, carvings, awards, wall designs and other projects.
