At ShopBot, we're
concerned that recovery from the economic disaster of last year will be
slow and rough for all (see
economic thoughts from the recent AWFS
show). But we’re also upbeat about the innovative, pioneering and
generous spirit we see when visiting shops and Camp ShopBots across the
country.
Our attitude is pretty
much summed up in a new release from Frank Smith, head of ShopBot’s Tech
Support group:
We’ve taken a couple
of specific steps of our own to encourage new initiatives and the use of
digital fabrication (CNC) for production in small shops. Working with Ponoko
(a web technology and laser cutting company) we’re developing a new
community resource website - 100kGarages.com - that brings ShopBotters together with people
who want to get things made. The website provides new ways to make
digital fabrication more broadly available and gives ShopBotters new
ways to be productive. We can't promise that 100kGarages will bring new
business to your shop, but working with the community of ShopBotters we
hope to educate the world about the availability of ShopBot services
We have always worked
to insure that our tools are priced as affordably as possible with
minimal margins and published standard prices. But it means that as much
as we would like to, we are not realistically able to lower the price
further on our tools.
What we have been able
been able to work out that we believe can be helpful is an incentive
program for accessories. For each new tool purchase, we are able to
offer a fixed credit amount towards the purchase of ShopBot accessories. It’s our
way of making a contribution to encouraging productivity and recovery.
For PRSstandard Tools: $500
toward accessories
For PRSalpha Tools:
$1,000 toward accessories
For PRSalpha
Tools with an Automatic Tool Changer:
$3,000 off the price of the ATC
These incentives are
good until December 31, 2009, and we hope they will help get a
ShopBot into your shop.
You may also want to
consider a lease program from one of the
lease vendors with whom ShopBotters have had good experiences.
Thanks for your
interest in helping to get our economy moving again.
