PRSstandard CNC Routers

ShopBot's PRSstandard CNCs are tools that rival the performance of any CNC machine costing less than $20,000 (except our PRSalpha, of course). The PRSstandard is a special opportunity for those who are ready to get started with CNC productivity - at a very low cost. The mechanical components of these PRS tools are the same as those shipped with our current PRSalpha CNC tools. These tools are standard in the sense that they have set the performance standard for entry-level CNC routers for many years. Now, our motors and new RBK drives offer significantly improved speed and power compared to previous models. With a PRSstandard, if you later decide you would like the performance of a PRSalpha, you can upgrade by adding PRSalpha Control System, drives and motors.

PRSstandard Control Box & Motor

ShopBot PRSstandard tools use open-loop stepper motors produced specifically for our tools with low-backlash gearheads. These motors have been used on our machines for many years and have proven to be tough, CNC workhorses. The PRSstandard Control System now includes RBK Series stepper motor drivers. These drivers provide higher speeds, higher step resolution and smoother cutting than our previous generations of ShopBots.

The ShopBot PRSstandard Control System that runs the ShopBot is the same full-featured CNC controller used on all our tools, a system that has become the leading affordable CNC control for shops around the world. The Control System Software reads the new, open standard for CNC code, OpenSBP as well as the older format for CNC, G-Code. The current version of our Control System Software is always available for free download from our website.

PRSstandard Buddy 32

The new ShopBot Buddy is the perfect tool for weekend projects and serious do-it-yourself jobs. With a PRSstandard Buddy, anyone can now incorporate CNC into a variety of home improvement and craft projects. Please note: While these PRSstandard CNC tools offer good performance - better than other entry level CNCs - they do NOT have the performance of our PRSalpha tools. For serious production work or performance-oriented machining, the ShopBot PRSalpha offers the greatest value in affordable production CNC.

To summarize the advantages of the PRSalpha tools: PRSalpha ShopBots are several times faster than the PRSstandard versions and other entry-level CNC tools. The advanced closed-loop PRSalpha motors add considerable reliability to heavy production operations and their 7.2:1 gearbox affords more power. PRSalpha tools have an integrated safety interlock system that supports an Emergency Stop disconnect switch at the Control Box as well as cabled, remote Emergency Stop Buttons. PRSstandard Control Boxes have an Emergency Stop disconnect switch at the Control Box only. They are shipped with a cabled, remote button that can be used to pause the operation of the tool, but it does not shut down power.

ShopBot PRSstandard Introductory CNC Packages with Accessories

We've put together some suggested basic systems of CNC Tool and Table, as well as accessories useful in getting you quickly into production with CNC.  [See suggested systems]

Before Placing Your Order

Electrical -- If you will be using a standard router, the PRSstandard Control Box can be plugged into a 110VAC (50-60Hz)*, 20Amp circuit. For spindle options, your Control Box and spindle will need a dedicated 220VAC circuit (optionally 3 phase). You will need to know about the electrical service to your shop to plan your configuration. A 220VAC Control Box will need to be wired into the electrical service by a licensed electrician. [*The voltage and configuration of the Control Box needs to be specified at time of order. Control Box voltage is not configurable by the purchaser.]

Router or Spindle
-- ShopBots are configured for either router or spindle.  So you will need to specify your choice at the time you order your ShopBot.  Give us a call for help with this decision [and see Router/Spindle]

Computer Requirements
-- You need a PC with an available USB port that is running Windows XP Pro or Vista Business or higher (64 bit systems are not supported). At minimum: Pentium 800 MHz, 512M RAM, Graphics display 1024x768 for the shop (this resolution optimally uses screen).  For your design computer (if you use a separate computer), a resolution of 1280 x 1024 or higher will work well.  If your shop computer will not be networked, an additional USB port for transferring files using USB memory stick is very useful.

Shipping --
ShopBots are shipped as four modules (Table, X-rails, X & Y carriages, Z-axis) ready for straightforward assembly (ShopBot Buddy systems are shipped fully assembled).  Shipments are crated and banded onto a single pallet and ShopBot will arrange shipment by truck to your shop or facility.  You will need to discuss several aspects of shipping with us.

International --
We sell and ship ShopBots internationally and manufacture them configured to local requirements.  The PRSstandard Control Box will usually adapt to local electrical service voltages, but you will need to plan circuits for your router/spindle and accessories and the Control Box needs to be configured for these at the time of purchase.  Check with us if you have questions.  Please see our International Support page where a number of issues related to international use, sales, shipping, installation and support are reviewed.
