PRSstandard CNC Routers

ShopBot's PRSstandard CNCs are tools that rival the performance of any CNC machine less than $20,000 (except our PRSalpha, of course). The PRSstandard is a special opportunity for those who are ready to get started with CNC productivity - at a very low cost - with the tool that has set the standard in affordable CNC.  The mechanical components of these PRS tools are the same as those shipped with our current PRSalpha CNC tools.  These tools are standard in the sense that they have set the performance standard for entry-level CNC routers as ShopBots have done for many years.  With a PRSstandard, if you later decide you would like the performance of a PRSalpha, you will be able to easily upgrade by adding PRSalpha Control System, drives and motors.

PRSstandard Control System

ShopBot PRSstandard tools use open-loop stepper motors with low-backlash gearheads.  These are the motors that were used in our products until the introduction of our PRSalpha systems. The ShopBot Control System is the same system that in five years became the leading affordable CNC for shops around the world.  [PRSstandard Control Board is shown at left.  Board is installed in a PC mini-tower-style case.  Gearhead stepper motor also pictured.] The PRSstandard control system now utilizes Geckodrive stepper drivers and provides higher speeds, higher step resolution and smoother cutting than our previous PRTstandard ShopBots.   [Control system with new drivers is available as Upgrade for existing PRTstandard CNCs]

Before Placing Your Order

Electrical -- The PRSstandard Control Box runs from a 110VAC (50-60Hz)^*, 15Amp circuit.  You will usually be able to power your computer from the same circuit.  Your router/spindle, and other accessories, will require a separate circuit.  You will need to know about the electrical service to your shop to plan for these accessories.  [*If 220VAC is required it can be specified at time of order. Control Box voltage is not configurable by the purchaser.]

Router or Spindle -- ShopBots are configured for either router or spindle.  So you will need to specify your choice at the time you order your ShopBot.  Give us a call for help with this decision [and see Router/Spindle].

Computer Requirements -- You need a PC with an available USB port that is running Windows XP Pro or Vista Business or higher (64 bit systems are not supported) . At minimum: Pentium 800 MHz, 512M RAM, Graphics display 1024x768 for the shop (this resolution optimally uses screen).  For your design computer (if you use a separate computer), a resolution of 1280 x 1024 or higher will work well.  If your shop computer will not be networked, an additional USB port for transferring files using USB memory stick is very useful.

Shipping -- ShopBots are shipped as four modules (Table, X-rails, X & Y carriages, Z-axis) ready for straightforward assembly.  Shipments are crated and banded onto a single pallet and ShopBot will arrange shipment by truck to your shop or facility.  You will need to discuss several aspects of shipping with us. 

International -- We sell and ship ShopBots internationally and manufacture them configured to local requirements.  The PRTstandard Control Box will usually adapt to local electrical service voltages, but you will need to plan circuits for your router/spindle and accessories.  Check with us if you have questions.  Please see our International Support page where a number of issues related to international use, sales, shipping, installation and support are reviewed.
