3D Digitizing
Probe
Make a copy of an object in 3D with our digital touch probe. Attaches in place of your
router bit in the router collet. Place the object you want to copy on the ShopBot table and
run the "Copy Machine" tool in the ShopBot Control Software.
You can duplicate an
existing 3D shape or piece of decorative trim or molding. Very useful for luthiers,
furnituremakers, and restoration work. The Digitizing
Probe provides a way to create 3D files without the complexity of using
3D software because it can directly generate a ShopBot Part File as it
probes. Alternatively, you can generate 3D files for import into 3D
software which can then be modified or enhanced.
The Digitizing Probe can also be used to trace the
outline of the edges of a flat part in order to produce a 2D file for
cutting out copies of the part. The probing time
required to sample the object depends on the how much detail you want to maintain in your
copy and size of object. Step distance can be set to as little as 0.002
inch depending on detail desired. The probing process is not fast, but
it does not require
user intervention while the sampling is being done. Once you have probed
the part, you can efficiently cut an unlimited number of copies.
The probe gently touches the object during the
process of sampling locations along the surface. Its internal sensing is
done by optical switches which provide accurate and reliable measurement
over millions of contacts. Output format choices are: ShopBot Part File
(.sbp); 3D point cloud (.dxf) for importing into design software such as
Mill Wizard or ArtCAM; polyline (.dxf; 2D outline only) for importing
into a CAD/CAM program. (#15160) 3D Digitizing
Probe; PRICE $395

Rotary
Indexing Head

A rotary indexer is like a lathe in that it allows
you to horizontally rotate a part being cut or machined by the router or
spindle on your ShopBot. It differs from a lathe because it provides
precise, indexed, control of the rotation of the part in a 4th axis of
work. Having a 4th axis allows profiling a shape in the round and much
more. You can do decorative ornamental work as well as 3D carvings of
shapes in the round.
The Rotary Indexing head includes the indexer head
with a jawed chuck,
which is driven by either a closed-loop, gearhead, alphaStep motor in
the PRSalpha version or a open-loop gearhead, stepper motor in the
PRSstandard version. Each indexer comes with an
adjustable tail stock. Two slotted, track units can be flexibly configured on your ShopBot
to set up the indexer for the best fit to the type of rotary work that you
will be doing. Maximum turning diameter for the 6" jaw system is
9". Maximum turning diameter for the 12" jaw system is 18". These
maximums are for round stock diameters, square stock is measured
diagonally between the corners. Six inch systems are fitted with
tapered-hob gearheads; 12" systems are fitted with planetary gearheads
for reduced backlash on larger diameter turnings and to support heavier
parts.
An Indexer Designer Software Tool is included in the ShopBot
Control System that allows you to:
• cut profiles/spindle turnings
• make rings, spirals, and twists
• wrap text around a cylinder • surface blanks to a cylinder or any number
of polygonal sides, straight or tapered
With additional software such as ArtCAM
Pro, or by using the Digitizing Probe (above) you can cut complete 3D,
rotated models in wood, plastic, light
metals or foam.

(#15104) 12" Rotary Indexing Head / with planetary
gearhead (for PRSalpha); PRICE $5,995
(#15105) 6" Rotary Indexing Head (for PRSstandard);

The 3-Button Pendant can be added to older PRS/PRT
alpha ShopBots and can be placed in a convenient location to allow ready
access to the Start, Reset and E-Stop. The buttons on this pendant work
in addition to the existing Start, Reset and E-Stop. The 30ft cord
allows the operator to carry it to virtually any location around the
table or it can be mounted near the computer controlling the ShopBot.
NOTE: Only alpha models can use this retrofit.

Z-zero Plate

Aluminum
plate with wiring for zeroing the Z-axis. Software program included in
ShopBot Control Software will automatically establish an accurate zero
for either the surface of the material or the surface of the table.
Z-zero plate is wired to one of the Control System inputs.
(#14524) Z-zero Plate with cable; PRICE
$75.00

Proximity Switches (X & Y axes)

Proximity
switches are used for accurately and automatically zeroing the X and Y
axes, and as electronic limits. The switches (1 for the X and 1 for the
Y; non-contact inductive sensors) are wired to a Control System Input.
They are easily added to your ShopBot. Software for doing the automatic
zeroing of the X and Y is included in the ShopBot Control Software.
When not being used to zero the location of an axis, they automatically
act a electronic limits. Pricing here is for the pair of X/Y switches and cable, but single
proximity switches for special uses are also available. Bracketing,
targets and instructions are included in the kit.
(#14603) X & Y Axis Proximity Switches; PRICE
$175
