FIRST NIGHT IN AUSTIN, TX
At the end of the Austin, TX First Night parade, a 34
foot tall, dual faced, functioning wooden clock was set afire to
celebrate the arrival of a new year. According to Dave Umlas, Lead
Designer at Community Art Makers, the window designs were cut on the
ShopBot three layers deep with small changes on each layer to make the
windows seem 3-d carved. All of the gearing was CNC cut, effectively
making this the largest wooden clock ever built. Pictures of the clock
while under construction can be seen at

SHOPBOT WELCOMES JARED

There's a new face around ShopBot. Jared was a summer intern with
ShopBot in 2007 and 2008 and he has returned as a part of our
development group after graduating from Kansas State University with
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis in machine design and
control. He'll be spending part of his time in production to gain
hands-on experience with all parts of ShopBot design and manufacturing.

Price Increase 2009
Please note that prices for a number of our ShopBot tools and
accessories have increased for 2009. During 2008, we experienced supply
price increases on practically every component of our tools. We worked
during 2008 to absorb these increases as much as possible and to improve
our sourcing and production techniques to keep costs down. But to insure
that we continue to make the most affordable, dependable, productive,
and best supported CNC tools available, we've been forced to include
these cost realities in our new pricing schedule.

How to Adjust the Bearings on the Z-axis
(captured-rail type) on the PRS ShopBot
The PRS Z-axis is calibrated before leaving our factory. However the
bearings on the Z-axis may need to be adjusted afer a period of use or
unexpected stress. To test the response of the Z-axis, turn off power to
the ShopBot. Push the Z-axis down, then release it. Normally, the Z
should move upward under spring tension. The presence of a spindle or
air drills may affect the speed and distance of this motion but the
overall movement should be smooth and fluid. You can download the
document from the documentation page at
