Update on Project Tyro
What do you want in a small ShopBot? We asked the ShopBot community this
question in the October Newsletter. The responses to the survey have
been extremely valuable. We would like to share some of the results and
give an update on the current developmental status of the benchtop
ShopBot.
Survey results told us that you wanted
- a target price
around $4000
- the high quality and
reliability for which ShopBot is known
- to be able to cut a
wide variety of materials
- to be able to use
multiple types/price ranges of cutter heads
So we are currently designing the machine to have
- an 18"x24"x4"
cutting envelope
- a footprint of
around 36"x24"
- anticipated cutting
speeds around 4 inches per second and jogging
- speeds around 6
inches per second
- the same
high-quality structural consturction that you've come to expect in a
ShopBot
Because most purchasers will be new to CNC, we are making every effort
to keep the tool as user friendly as possible. We would like to thank
everyone who took time and completed a survey. For those who have not
yet taken the survey, and would like to contribute, it can be accessed

100kGarages registers its 100th Fabber
Now in
its third month, 100kGarages has been linking people who want to get
things made (we call this group Makers) with ShopBotters who make things
(we call this groups Fabbers). In November, 100kGarages registered its
100th Fabber, and the community continues to grow. So far, 100kGarages
Makers and Fabbers have collaborated on projects such as beds, guitars
and even a pencil dispenser.
To see what’s been going on at 100kGarges.com, check out the Project
Reports section where 100k Fabbers post reports about the things they’re
making. Get ideas for your own projects or learn more about the 100k
Fabbers who are available to help you get the things you want to get
made.

100kGarages.com now also features a page where you can browse
Fabber-ready projects to get an idea of the variety of things that can
be made by 100k Fabbers. Explore the projects, and if you see one that
interests you, click its image for more information about that project
and about finding a Fabber to get started.
