Students Learn Digital Fabrication with ShopBot, at Bayfront Maritime Center
May 28, 2011 The new ShopBot CNC digital fabrication equipment is up and running with Erie, PA, high school students in the Bayfront Maritime Center Boatshop, a community-based educational center. These kids are learning valuable 21st century workplace skills. First they design a project using a Computer Aided Design (CAD) program. This data is then converted into a Computer Numeric Control (CNC) toolpath to run the digital fabrication machine. Read the full story here.
Lincoln Park High School students win Minwax Community Craftsman awards
May 12, 2011 Congratulations to Brett Dickinson's students from Brownsville, Texas, on winning runners-up Community Craftsman awards for outstanding community service, sponsored by Minwax. Using a ShopBot to cut precision wood parts, the students constructed a variety of therapeutic wood furniture pieces for the Moody Clinic, which serves disabled children and their families. The students built adjustable chairs and tables and balance boards and built a therapeutic wood gym in the clinic. Read the full story here.

In the Clark County School District in Las Vegas, NV, ShopBot CNCs help teachers link woodworking to computer technologies and design, and provide a new (digital) way of producing project parts.

I recently had the opportunity to tour a few Las Vegas, Nevada area high school woodshops to talked shop with the teachers and some of the students.
Having taught wood shop myself in the past, it was obvious that some good things have not changed. The teachers are still committed to their students and programs. Their ability to keep 20-30 students safely working in a room full of woodworking machines is nothing short of amazing. It comes from their ability to know what’s happening across shop simply by listening to the machines; confirming with a quick glance whether the student needs immediate assistance or is simply having a learning experience.

Lincoln Park High School, Brownsville, Texas
On Feb. 2-3, 2007, Brett Dickinson and his students from Lincoln Park High School in Brownsville, Texas participated in the SkillsUSA District 13 Leadership and Skills Competition at Texas State Technical College in Harlington, Texas. With the help of its ShopBot CNC router, Lincoln Park qualified five students for the state competition and brought back a total of 10 project ribbons.
SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives working together to ensure America has a skilled work force. It helps each student excel. SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations.
